Newsletter - July

WELCOME to our July newsletter.
It is another time of the year where we welcome new families to the club and our teams are exciting playing in the new season.  So read on and find out what makes Newlands the good club it is. My answer is its people.

SAFETY
The safety of our players comes first.  Recently and in the winter months there was and may be condensation from the roof on the courts in the early games.  This does not always happen but may happen as the cold weather sets in. We will not put our player’s safety at risk and will not play games if the courts are unsafe to do so.  This may inconvenient people but I would rather upset people than have a child injured.  This direction has been forwarded to all coaches. If games are called off under these circumstances for this please understand and support the reasoning behind our decision.

TEAMS
In the last newsletter I stated that we had good growth and had entered 19 junior teams and 2 adults’ teams for this season.  This has changed.  The latest update is 22 junior teams and 3 adult teams. I have attached a growth chart to show these results.  It is something to get excited about.

Our new teams are: Under 8 Leopards, Under 10 boys Colts, Under 12 girls Pandas are now 2 teams Wolves and Pumas, Under 16 girls Tigers, Under 16 boys Titans, Under 20 boys Crocs, Ladies adult Chicks. Men’s adult Blokes and All Stars. We also have new coaches and team manager and thank them for their willingness to help us provide opportunities for members of our community to enjoy basketball at our wonderful club.

NEW PLAYERS
We have positions available in most teams and are always looking to bring new players into our club.  The only teams that are full are our under 18 boys and adults teams. There are immediate positions available in all other age groups.

SAUSAGE SIZZLE
We conducted a sausage sizzle at Masters Hardware in Preston on the Saturday the 22nd of June.  Thank you to the following people who assisted as well as continuing their normal game day duties.  So it is a big thank you to organiser Liz Nichols and helpers Debbie White, Trish Mikhail, Lucia Tamis, Cathy Gatt, Di Christensen, Oscar Menuel, Pat Di Lizio, Julia Palantzis and Rebecca Nichols.  A further thank you to Pat for the donation of the sliced onions.
We will be running more in the future and look forward to having more helpers available. The funds raised are much needed and assist with the running of our club.

FUNDRAISING COMMITTEE
Fundraising is a highly important part of running our club.  We do rely on these funds greatly.  We are looking for volunteers to join our new to be formed fundraising committee. I have spoke with some people about this and the response was good.  We have a lot of talented people with some very good ideas. This is your opportunity to help this great club of ours.
A meeting is planned for 6 pm on the 22nd of July at the Coburg Basketball Stadium office.  Hope to see you there.
