Newsletter May 2013

Around Our Club
WELCOME to our May newsletter.
What an exciting time of the year. Finals are here and we can also look forward to our presentation on May 25
th.
I am continually amazed at the achievement of our club so read on and find out what makes Newlands so special.
If you can, come along and support our many teams in the finals. The support we have given our teams in the past hasbeen exceptional, don’t disappoint all our teams this year. Come along and cheer.
I have also attached on page 3 a poster. Please circulate this in your local community.

CHOCOLATE DRIVE
Our chocolate drive is has completed. Thank you to all that rolled up theirsleeves and helped. Our contest was won by Chris Pavlovski and asecond prize was awarded to Liz Nichols. The money we raised will helpour presentation while it also gave players an opportunity to get a club drinkbottle for selling a box. If you have not returned your money please do so.
LADIES BASKETBALL
We will be entering a ladies basketball in the senior completion on Tuesday nights starting 4/6/13. The team isnow near full. The following season we will be entering a mixed and men’s team. Our goal is to continue togrow our number of adult teams and therefore providing opportunities for all the community to become involved. Our players are now getting older and within a few years will be able to continue with our club as young adults.
COACHES/TEAM MANAGERS
We are looking for new junior coaches and Team managers. Our growth is enormous. Next season we willenter at least 18 teams. At this time last year we had 11 teams playing. Just for a moment stop and reflectwhat that means. Our number of players has nearly doubled during this time. That is absolutely amazing. Offcourse we do have growing pains/concerns along the way but we are doing our best to sort them out as we go.We always need help within our club and currently need some team officials that is coaches, team managers, scorers and committee people. All team officials require ‘working with children’ cards and the club can assistyou in this process.
TROPHY PRESENTATION
You are invited to our annual trophy presentation on Saturday the 25th of May. It will start at 5.30 pm at the DonBosco Youth Centre in Sydney Road Brunswick. There will be no basketball games that weekend. There willbe no fee charged as entry is free.
All current players will receive a participation trophy. A referee award trophy is also presented to a player ineach team. This player is selected over the year by the referees providing votes after our games. It is not forthe best player but the best achiever as voted by the match day referees on a 3/2/1 basic. They are tallied forthe complete year to calculate the winner.

Come along and join us and invite your friends.
Parents are asked to bring a desert plate. The club will be providing pizzas, drinks and entertainment.
